Releasing the Spirits of the Mind, 15.5" x 10.25"
This work was specifically created for the book, For Indigenous Minds Only: A Decolonization Handbook. The image is designed on a US Cavalry recruiting ledger 1800's cir, to demonstrate the resilience and persistence of the people over colonization. The picture illustrates the process of change (the releasing and decolonizing of the mind and brain through ceremony).

The horses moving upward from the different parts of the brain towards the lodges represent the streams of thoughts of the people about the necessity of returning to traditional beliefs, values, practices, and living. The woman represents "She that makes all things grow," and has always been there for the people to nurture change and inspire growth. When the people call on her for help, she extends her a finger to point at, and touch, all the possibilities of decolonization, which exist in the four directions.

Change is coming. Be ready.
