This floral depiction is a tribute to Buffalo Bird Woman (Maxi'diwiac) a very prominent Hidatsa woman ca. (1839-1932) and the season of the Sunflower planting moon.    Buffalo Bird woman lived a very simple and traditional lifestyle during the transition from Like a Fishhook Village to the Fort Berthold reservation.    The Sunflower planting moon season was not only a beginning of the planting season but a spiritual partnership between the Hidatsa people and mother earth.
