The New Arrival
5" x 7 ", Colored Pencil on Antique ledger paper, Virginia City and Sappington Stage Line. 1800 cir.
*Private Collector - Little Rock AR
Designed on an antique Virginia City Sappington stage lines ledger cir.1800's, the new arrival denotes the beginning of western expansion to lands that were occupied and or shared by indigenous tribes. The new arrival is shadowed by the stagecoach as she is dressed in period attire. Her presence symbolizes that as a female she is carrying the potential for life of future generations of non-native immigrants. In the lower part of the ledger is a Native woman (Crow) dressed in traditional garment watching as the new arrivals bring about change to indigenous lives.
