War Cry, Hidatsa warrior, Yellow Coat, Charges
17" x 13", colored pencil on antique Great Falls MT ledger, 1916 cir.

Yellow Coat was a Hidatsa warrior- he is shown with spear, entering Blackfeet territory on his horse.  Hidatsa frequented MT areas as they were very close relatives to the Crow.  They engaged in conflict with several of the tribes because of territory; one such tribe was the Blackfeet.  In this depiction, Yellow Coat is dressed in full war regalia, yelling his war cry to his enemy the Blackfeet, “Enemy I am coming for you, you have no place to hide”.  The lighting design on his horse and shield represent the powers of the low cap clan.
